Activate your own gift card from MyCOMMERCE Standard, here’s how!
If you want to start selling gift cards right away, you first need to activate the corresponding function. To do so, simply follow these steps: Open your MyCOMMERCE account and then select “Products” and then “Gift Cards” in the navigation bar.
Now you’re ready to start creating gift cards. You can use the default settings or customize the gift cards to your liking.
You can change the following fields as you wish:
Amounts: MyCOMMERCE gift cards come with three different standard credit options, which you can customize and expand as needed. Offer your customers the widest possible selection of credit options to ensure there’s something for every occasion and every budget.
Card Name: You can rename your gift cards as you wish. The important thing is that the new name makes sense for both consumers and search engine optimization.
Design: MyCOMMERCE provides you with a standard motif for designing gift cards. A varying number of motifs and a customized layout make your gift card truly unique. Our insider tip: With Canva’s gift card designer, you can create your own voucher templates without any design knowledge. Try it out!
Card description: MyCOMMERCE provides you with a standard description that you can customize. Use this space to briefly explain the terms and conditions of your gift card (expiration date, payment terms, etc.).
To control how your gift card page meta descriptions appear in search results, we also recommend customizing the following fields:
Validity period: By default, your gift card’s validity period is set to “non-expiring.” So make sure you define and enter the desired validity period in advance.
In this context, we would also like to point out that the statutory limitation periods under the Code of Obligations are five or ten years, depending on the type of claim.
Two things you don’t have to worry about when selling electronic gift cards:
- VAT: Gift cards are considered a means of payment and are therefore not subject to tax. VAT is therefore only charged when the gift card is redeemed in the store.
- Shipping: Electronic gift cards are delivered exclusively via email. Mail delivery of gift cards is therefore disabled.
Once your gift card is finalized, access the preview link and save it. Your gift card will then appear in your shop overview (in a category of your choice). If you wish, you can also display the gift card in the footer of the shop overview.
Now take a quick look at the terms of use:
- Gift cards may not be exported to Facebook or Instagram. Facebook also states this in its terms of use.
- The terms and conditions of the respective payment provider must be reviewed before activating the gift cards.
- Orders containing a gift card cannot be paid for with another gift card.
- Discounts and vouchers cannot be used to purchase a gift card.

How do I receive and redeem a gift card?
After purchasing the gift card, your customers will receive a voucher code via email, which they can forward directly to the recipient.
The voucher code is redeemed directly during the checkout process of the online shopping cart. The following scenarios may arise for the cardholder:
Order value less than order value: If the original card balance is higher than the order value, the remaining balance will remain on the gift card.
Gift card value higher than order value: Any remaining amount exceeding the value of the gift card must be paid directly by the cardholder using another payment method.
How to increase your sales success with a gift card!
You now know how to create your own gift cards. Finally, we’d like to share a few simple marketing tips with you:
- Use social media channels to inform your customers about the gift card offer.
- Use the “Buy Now” button to display your gift cards on your website or on certain partner websites.
